Press Cuttings

Strangely, our sporting exploits receive little coverage in the national press, with this one notable exception.

Streaky run

THE cricket season rolls on with a bizarre incident during a match the other day on the Meadows between the University of Edinburgh's Physics Department and the Department of Informatics. (We're not quite sure what that is, but it sounds pretty important.)

The cricket oval on the Meadows is regularly impinged upon by the odd game of football, kids on bikes, or dogs chasing a stick. On this occasion, however, play was interrupted by a streaker, wearing nothing apart from a pair of football boots tied around, bizarrely, his waist.

The initial reaction of both teams was that the other team were unable to equip and clothe a full XI (due to cutbacks in higher education funding).

When it became clear that this was a genuine streaker and not an extra team "member", the cricketers felt rather flattered that at least someone was taking notice of their game.

Or perhaps it was a training run for Muirfield. The Honourable Company has been forewarned.
